Welcome to J Bar B Ranch! Our ranch was established in 1941 as a cattle ranch so has been in the family for many years.  We pride ourselves in raising champion paint and quarter horses. Although we have only been breeding horses since 2001 we are extremely proud of having raised a world champion gelding and several point earners. We even have a filly that is the current Italian Champion mare as well as several foals coming in 2009 in Europe! Be sure to check out our Gallery page for lots of winners pictures and look at our Longhorn cattle. We also sell registered Texas Longhorn cattle for breeding and for beef. The J Bar B is located only an hour from Dallas and off the beaten path...Visitors are always welcome.

In 2001 we lucked upon our herd sire, Barlnk Zip Code, for sale. We had been looking for over a year for a stud that was not only conformationally correct, HYPP NN, a World Champion and Quarter Horse blooded but also one that I could handle by myself. Cody fulfilled all of that criteria and then some!  He gave us seven great years but we lost him last October. New in 2007 was the addition of an additional stallion, A First At Last. This is a palomino stud by At Long Last (4X World Champion). "Goliath" is a totally different type of horse from Cody in that he is more lean and longer legged. We feel he will cross on the soggier built halter mare and perhaps add some modern qualities to a foal. We will be standing Goliath in 2009...2008 was his first season so check out his 2009 foals. We are a small scale breeder by many standards. We are not interested in having 50 or even 20 foals a year. We do this because we love horses and showing. We are having eight foals in 2009. These will be out of mares that has taken us 7 years to accumulate.  We are firm believers in mare power. If you breed a fabulous stallion to junk you are gambling...quality is no accident. Breeding is our hobby not our main business...we will treat you as we would like to be treated and most of what we breed will be for sale...we are not horse traders and care where they end up.   We just enjoy the babies and we like to show. We are always trying to improve on the last years foal crop.

At the J Bar B we want our horses to excel in looks, movement and temperment. We believe halter horses should have a life after halter shows and therefore, should ride as well. We fit the legal, natural way always. We never put the desire to win over the welfare of the horse. We have been told by more than one trainer that Cody babies tend to have good minds and sweet dispositions. They also are extremely athletic and some are exceling in western pleasure and even reining. I also am very impressed with the dispositions of Goliath's first foals. All will come right up to you and let you scratch them.

You've come to the right place for quality, beauty, and the opportunity to own your own future World Champion. Our prices here will not be as high as what you see at big ranches where the overhead is sky high.  So, look here before you buy your next show prospect...you just might be surprised.

The J Bar B Ranch consists of 300 acres that borders Lake Athens and is less than a half mile away from the Athens Fairgrounds.  Ken is originally from Athens and although was away for several years he is glad to return to his roots.  We operate a real estate company called Central Realty from the ranch in Athens. Directions: From Highway 31 East, take 317 East (Leagueville Rd.) to first right (CR 4908) to our gate. Athens is located 30 minutes West of Tyler and an hour and 10 minutes SE from Hwy 635 in Dallas. If visiting do call for specific directions as those on mapquest are wrong.
